The Paper Museum in Amalfi

Where
Amalfi
When
All year round, but especially in May, June or September, as Amalfi is especially beautiful during this period.
What

It is a unique chance to visit a museum/laboratory wholly dedicated to the art of Italian paper-making, a leap into the origins of a medium that changed forever the history of civilization, and the possibility to admire instruments, techniques, and paper making machinery which dates from 13th century. Historically the first European hand-made paper factory, Amalfi contends with Fabriano as to which imported the art of paper making to the continent. Nevertheless, the famous 'Bambagina' of Amalfi was born and continues to be made only here, respecting an ancient artisan craft that is unchanged in time.
Why you shouldn't miss it
It's a great chance to stock up on writing paper, note paper, business cards and wonderful albums for sketching and water colours which will give a sophisticated elegance to your personal correspondence and new depth to your artistic endeavours. Or use it for wedding or special event invitations. Imagine the luxury of wedding invitations on such beautiful paper.
Why you should visit it
The 'Bambagina' paper from Amalfi is unique in the world and it is rare to find a hand-crafted paper laboratory so refined.
To be avoided if
you believe that an e-mail or a text message is just as nice as a love letter written with sepia or varying pale blue coloured ink. Or, if you think that a phone call is as elegant as an invitation or a greeting received by mail.
How to get there
By bus: SITA bus to Amalfi.
By boat : from Positano, Sorrento, or Napoli.
By car : SS 163, direction Amalfi - Salerno.
Timetable

A visit to the museum does not take a long time and so this is the perfect opportunity to penetrate the little streets and alleys of Amalfi up towards the famous Valle delle Ferriere, a biogenetic nature park and nature walk. You can insert the visit to the paper museum into a discovery walk of Amalfi; consider it an indispensable stop on your historical/cultural itinerary.
If you have some extra time
Coming back down from the museum towards the sea, avoid the central road and stick to the little streets and alleys that run beside it. These little lanes, secret piazzas and architectural perspectives of Amalfi are real beauties not to be missed.
