What

During the 4 weekends from the 2nd until the 25th of May 2008, the splendour of Napoli, city of art and jewel case of often unknown artistic treasures, will be celebrated. To the joy of art lovers, monuments, churches, itineraries, and private collections, normally not accessible to tourists or closed during the year, can be visited. This year's edition has as its theme the castles and churches of the metropolis. Castel Nuovo, Castel dell'Ovo, Castel Captano and Castel Sant'Elmo will be centres of events, and important artistic exhibitions for the duration of the manifestation. Guided walks and itineraries in the historic centre of the city will alternate with musical performances, theatre and dance to fill out an agenda that has attracted and seduced millions of tourists and citizens for years.

Why you shouldn't miss it

It is an opportunity to visit Napoli under the direction of and accompanied by great, internationally known artists, who in occasion of the manifestation, chaperon and produce artistic performances (scenography, dance, music, lighting, and street theatre performances) that compliment and invigorate the already spectacular artistic locations of the metropolis.

Why you should experience it

Beyond the prejudices that exist, Napoli is a beautiful city, a jewel box of artistic treasures, settings and human and natural landscapes that are unique in the world. To visit Napoli in the Spring and in a period when maximum attention is given to the tourist, is probably the best way to capture it's real splendor.

To be avoided if

You are convinced that Napoli is only sea, sun, tarantella, purse-snatching and... garbage. And if you don't want to admit that everywhere, especially while travelling, one can be robbed if and when basic rules of security are not followed. Leave your Rolex and diamond necklace at home and use simple, minimal photograph equipment. With a little money, a credit card, and a bit of time to explore unknown neighbourhoods, you'll have no problem enjoying this marvellous metropolis.

Timetable

To enjoy some of "May of Monuments" you will need a day or a whole weekend's time. However, if you programme the events or itineraries that you want to enjoy, it is easy to fit something into a one or two week Amalfi Coast vacation.

If you have some extra time

Use it to dive into some of the gastronomic delicacies of the city. Don't forget: you are in the birth-place of the pizza , the baba and the sfogliatella.
